Drug Resistance
Drug Resistance is the ability of a disease (usually a bacterium, virus, or other microorganism) to withstand the effects of a drug meant to treat it. High levels of drug resistance can lead to treatment failure, the spread of infections, and increased suffering and death. Drug resistance is a major public health threat and can lead to longer-lasting, more severe illness and increased healthcare costs. To combat this, doctors and scientists work together to identify drug resistant pathogens, develop new treatments and therapies, and use proper infection control measures.
