Crimean-congo Hemorrhagic Fever

Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) is a severe and potentially deadly tick-borne viral infection of humans. It is found in Africa, the Balkans, the Middle East, and Asia. CCHF is an important infectious disease as it is associated with significant mortality which can reach up to 30%. Symptoms of CCHF include fever, headache, muscle pain, and bleeding. Diagnosis is through laboratory testing of blood or serum samples. Treatment options are limited and there is no specific vaccine. Prevention of CCHF is primarily through reduction of exposure to tick-infested areas, personal protective measures, and effective tick control programs.
