Ulcerative Colitis

Ulcerative Colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) which causes ulcers along the inner lining of the large intestine and rectum. Symptoms of Ulcerative Colitis can include abdominal pain and cramping, diarrhea, weight loss, and rectal bleeding. The exact cause of Ulcerative Colitis is unknown, but it is believed to be caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Treatment of Ulcerative Colitis typically involves medications and lifestyle changes to reduce symptoms and improve quality of life. Surgery may also be necessary in cases where medications and lifestyle modifications are not effective. Ulcerative Colitis is a chronic condition with no cure, but with proper treatment, people can experience long periods of remission.
