Digestion
Digestion is the process of breaking down food into smaller molecules that can be absorbed and utilized by the body. It is a crucial part of nutrition and health, as it is essential for supplying the body with the necessary energy and nutrition it needs to function. Digestion begins in the mouth with the mechanical breaking down of food, and then continues in the digestive tract, which includes the stomach, small intestine and large intestine. Here, digestion is aided with enzymes that break down macronutrients such as carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, as well as micronutrients such as vitamins and minerals. Without proper digestion, the body would be unable to receive the nutrients it needs to stay healthy and energized.
