Ascites

Ascites is an accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity caused by an underlying medical condition. It is a very common clinical finding and can occur in a variety of medical conditions, including cirrhosis, congestive heart failure, and cancer. Treatment of ascites involves addressing the underlying medical condition as well as managing the symptoms, which may include diuretics and dietary modifications. Early recognition and treatment of ascites can improve prognosis and quality of life.
