Sinus Lift
Sinus lift is a dental surgical procedure that involves raising the maxillary sinus membrane and placing a bone graft in the sinus floor. It is also known as sinus augmentation or sinus elevation. This dental treatment is often necessary when patients lack sufficient bone height in their upper jaw to support dental implants. During a sinus lift surgery, the dentist or oral surgeon will make an incision in the gum tissue to access the sinus cavity. The sinus membrane is gently lifted, and a bone graft material is then placed on the sinus floor. The bone graft material typically comes from the patient's own bone or a synthetic material. After the bone graft is placed, the incision is sutured, and the area is left to heal for several months. This healing period allows the bone graft to integrate with the existing bone in the upper jaw. Once the area has fully healed, the patient can proceed with the placement of their dental implants. Sinus lift surgery is considered safe and effective, with a high success rate in the long-term. However, as with any surgery, there may be risks and complications, including infection, bleeding, and sinusitis. In summary, sinus lift is a crucial dental procedure that helps patients with insufficient bone height in their upper jaw. It is an effective solution to enhance the posterior maxilla to hold dental implants securely. If you require a sinus lift surgery, consult with your dentist or oral surgeon to get a proper evaluation and to assess if it’s right for you.
