Dental Forensics

Dental forensics is the application of dental science in criminal investigations, legal proceedings, and identification of individuals by analyzing their dental records. It plays a crucial role in forensic sciences which involves the study and application of sciences used to resolve legal issues or criminal investigations. Dental forensics has been utilized in the identification of disaster victims or crime suspects based on their dental records. With the help of dental records, forensic dentists can provide significant evidence to aid in legal proceedings. Dental records include information such as X-rays, tooth alignment, fillings or implants, dental impressions, and dental charting. Furthermore, forensic dental examination can aid in establishing the time of death or cause of injury in cases of homicide, sexual assault, or child abuse. Preserving the dentition samples can also help in identifying victims of mass disasters such as plane crashes, fires, or natural disasters. Dental implants are an important aspect of forensic dentistry, which can be used for the identification of dead bodies or skeletal remains. Since dental implants are unique to individuals, forensic dentists can use them to provide evidence when other identification methods are not useful. In conclusion, dental forensics is an essential aspect of forensic sciences that has significant applications in the identification of individuals, criminal investigations, and legal proceedings. The use of dental implants plays a crucial role in the process and holds great promise for future forensic research.
