Virus Effects on Host Gene Expression
Viruses are small microorganisms that can cause diseases in humans, animals and plants. Viruses are not able to reproduce on their own and rely on taking over other cells and using their genetic material to replicate. This process can lead to changes in the host cell, such as changes to the expression of genes, resulting in the production of disease-causing proteins. Studying these effects of viruses on host gene expression is important for understanding how viruses cause disease, as well as for developing new treatments and vaccines. By studying the changes caused by viruses to host gene expression, scientists can learn more about how viruses manipulate the host cell and use that knowledge to develop better strategies for preventing and treating diseases.
