Overview

Viral transmission and infection occurs when viruses enter the body of a host, usually through contact with infected bodily fluids or small airborne particles that contain the virus. This can lead to various illnesses such as the common cold, influenza and SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Understanding the mechanisms of viral transmission and infection is key to developing effective treatments and prevention measures. For example, vaccines work by triggering an antibody response against the virus to stop its spread. Additionally, preventive strategies such as good hygiene, social distancing, and wearing face masks can help reduce the risk of infection. Therefore, understanding how viruses spread and how to prevent them is vital for maintaining public health.
