Ulcerative Colitis

Ulcerative Colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) characterized by inflammation in the large intestine and rectum, resulting in abdominal pain, cramping, bloody diarrhea, and fatigue. It is an autoimmune disorder, where the body's immune system attacks its own tissue, causing inflammation and ulceration in the innermost lining of the large intestine. Ulcerative Colitis can be a disabling and chronic condition, but can be managed with medications, lifestyle changes, and, if necessary, surgery. As proper diagnosis, treatment and management of Ulcerative Colitis can lead to improved quality of life, seeking medical help at the earliest signs of symptoms is essential for those who may have the disorder.
