Overview
Colon cancer occurs when abnormal cells grow in the lining of the large intestine. Treatment options depend on the stage, size, and location of the cancer, as well as the patient's overall health. Treatment might include surgery, chemotherapy, and/or radiation therapy. Surgery is the most common treatment for colon cancer, and is generally used to remove the tumor and nearby tissue. Chemotherapy and radiation may be used before or after surgery to kill any remaining cancer cells. Having multiple treatment options for colon cancer gives patients a better chance for a successful outcome and improved quality of life.
