Laparoscopic Colorectal Surger
Laparoscopic colorectal surgery is a minimally invasive procedure employed for the treatment of diseases of the colon and rectum. It is performed with the help of a laparoscope, a thin, long telescope with a camera and light at one end, inserted through small cuts in the abdomen. This procedure is beneficial because it offers advantages such as fewer side effects, less pain, less scarring, shorter recovery period, and better outcomes compared to traditional open surgery. Laparoscopy is also cost-effective and enables faster recovery for the patient. It is increasingly used for the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant colon diseases, such as polyps and rectal cancer, and can be used in conjunction with other surgeries such as abdominoperineal resection, restorative proctocolectomy, and transanal endoscopic microsurgery.
