Gastrointestinal Cancer: Treatment & Management
Gastrointestinal cancer is an umbrella term for cancers that affect any part of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, including the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, rectum, anus, and gallbladder. Treatment and management of gastrointestinal cancer depend on the stage and type of cancer. Common treatments include surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. For people with advanced gastrointestial cancer, newer treatment options such as targeted therapy and immunotherapy can also be beneficial. Following a treatment plan closely and monitoring for any cancer recurrence are an important part of the management plan. Early detection and prompt medical attention can significantly improve outcomes and provide better management of gastrointestinal cancer.
