Elephantiasis
Elephantiasis is a medical condition caused by a parasitic infection. It results in the abnormal thickening and enlargement of the skin and underlying tissues, usually in the legs and genital area. Elephantiasis can lead to serious physical and psychological issues; people may experience pain, discomfort, impaired mobility, and social stigma. Elephantiasis can be treated with medications, but often requires multiple rounds of treatment to successfully reduce the symptoms. Prevention of elephantiasis is best achieved through adequate sanitation and hygiene, as well as proper diagnosis and treatment of parasitic infections.
