Child Abuse
Child abuse is a crime which involves physical or emotional abuse inflicted upon a child, including physical, sexual or psychological maltreatment or neglect. It is a major public health problem with both short-term and long-term consequences for the child, including physical and psychological trauma, as well as social and psychological impairments. Child abuse can lead to a range of physical and psychological problems such as depression, anxiety, trauma-related disorders, cognitive difficulties and substance abuse. Early detection and intervention are essential to mitigate the damaging effects of child abuse and to prevent its recurrence. Awareness of child abuse is important, as it can lead to improved identification and reporting of instances of abuse, and thereby provide the opportunity for early intervention and prevent further harm to the child.
