Vaccine Development
Vaccine development is an important field of science and medicine for preventing and treating diseases caused by harmful bacteria and viruses. Vaccines work by introducing modified or dead versions of the targeted pathogens into a person’s body, allowing it to develop immunity without causing illness. This produced immunity can then provide protection from future disease brought on by the same pathogen. Vaccines have been used to successfully prevent and treat many diseases, including smallpox, diphtheria, hepatitis A, and the measles. Vaccine development is a major factor in public health, as it has the potential to save many lives that are lost to preventable diseases each year.
