HIV Status
HIV, or Human Immunodeficiency Virus, is a virus that can lead to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). HIV weakens a person's immune system by destroying important cells that fight disease and infection. It is spread through contact with certain bodily fluids, such as blood and vaginal/seminal fluid. Knowing one's HIV status is crucial to understanding the risk of HIV transmission, as well as determining the appropriate course of treatment. Regular HIV testing is essential to ensure early detection and treatment, and to reduce the risk of HIV transmission. Early treatment helps individuals take control of their health, and can delay or prevent the development of AIDS-related complications. HIV testing is widely available and is an essential step in HIV prevention and care.
