Overview

HIV epidemiology is the study of the spread, distribution, and determinants of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infections in a given population. It enables us to understand how the virus is spread, the risk groups that are affected, and the most effective measures for preventing its spread. By using this knowledge, health professionals can develop strategies to reduce the impact of HIV and other diseases, as well as provide health services and interventions to those affected. Furthermore, implementation of effective programmes can reduce the burden of HIV on communities.
