Overview
HIV disease progression rates refer to the speed at which human immunodeficiency virus infection advances from initial infection through various clinical stages, potentially leading to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) if untreated. Research published in Clinical Research In HIV AIDS And Prevention examines multiple factors that influence these progression rates in diverse populations. Studies have investigated psychosocial determinants including the relationships between physical symptoms, emotional support, self-esteem, and depressive symptoms in HIV-positive perinatal women, as well as broader psychosocial factors affecting antiretroviral treatment adherence. The journal has published work on drug resistance patterns in children and adolescents receiving antiretroviral therapy, which can affect treatment efficacy and disease trajectory. Additional research has explored how antiretroviral medications themselves may influence aging processes through effects on telomerase function, and examined long-term health outcomes including disability in cohorts on extended antiretroviral therapy. Cardiovascular risk factors and physical activity patterns in people living with HIV have also been studied, reflecting the evolving understanding that disease progression encompasses not only viral load and immune function but also comorbidities and quality of life measures that affect long-term health outcomes in treated populations.
