Overview
HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus that attacks the immune system and is spread through contact with infected blood, semen, and other bodily fluids. HIV diagnosis and management is extremely important in order to prevent further spread of the virus, delay disease progression, and improve the quality of life for those living with the virus. Diagnosis typically involves testing the patient’s blood for the presence of antibodies to the virus. Management may involve the use of antiretroviral medications, which can reduce the amount of virus present in the body and delay disease progression. Additionally, regular monitoring such as laboratory testing and physical exams are important to assess the effectiveness of HIV management and to prevent complications. HIV diagnosis and management are essential components of HIV care, and can significantly improve the health of those living with HIV.
