Antiviral Therapy
Antiviral therapy is the use of medications to treat a viral infection. Antiviral drugs work by interfering with the multiplication of the virus in the body. Examples of antiviral medications used to treat viral infections include nucleoside analogue reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs) and protease inhibitors (PIs). Antivirals are used to treat infections caused by viruses, such as HIV, herpes, influenza, cytomegalovirus, hepatitis B and C, and other infections. They can also help to prevent certain types of infections from developing or from becoming serious. Antiviral therapy is an important tool in combating and managing viral infections, and can improve the quality of life for those affected.
