Overview

Aids Research is an area of scientific research focused on understanding and mitigating the effects of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This virus leads to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), a complex and potentially fatal condition. Aids Research has the potential to develop effective treatments, prevention and ultimately a cure for the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Research areas include epidemiology, immunology, virology, molecular biology, diagnostics, vaccines, and drug and medical device development. Aids Research has improved our understanding of the virus and its effects, enabling the development of antiviral drugs, diagnostics, and other therapies, and contributing to a decrease in AIDS-related deaths globally.
