Overview

AIDS-related opportunistic infections are infections that occur more frequently or with greater severity in individuals with advanced HIV disease due to weakened immune systems. Research published in Clinical Research In HIV AIDS And Prevention has examined various dimensions of HIV care that relate to opportunistic infection risk and management. Studies have documented the demographics and clinical profiles of hospitalized HIV-infected persons in the HAART era, including patterns of opportunistic disease presentation. The journal has published research on antiretroviral therapy regimens and their associated adverse drug reactions in HIV-positive populations, as well as cost evaluations of these treatment-related complications. Additional work has explored potential complementary approaches, including investigations of phytochemical compounds and their possible effects on HIV progression and immune function in seropositive individuals. The journal has also addressed specific opportunistic conditions, such as conjunctival squamous cell carcinoma in HIV-infected patients. Further research has examined long-term health outcomes in people receiving antiretroviral therapy, including disability patterns and cardiovascular risk factors. Understanding opportunistic infections remains essential for comprehensive HIV care, as these complications continue to affect morbidity and quality of life even in the era of effective antiretroviral treatment.
