Aids-related Opportunistic Infections
Aids-related Opportunistic Infections (AOI) are infections that occur more frequently or are more severe in individuals with weakened immune systems due to HIV/AIDS. It is important to recognize and diagnose AOIs early to reduce the impact of the infection and help prevent further serious health complications. AOIs can range from mild to very serious and include a variety of conditions, such as Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP), toxoplasmosis, mycobacterium avium complex (MAC), and various fungal, viral, and bacterial infections. Treatment for AOIs depends on the type and severity of the infection, and can involve the use of antibiotics and antifungal medications, as well as supportive therapies. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment are essential for decreasing the risks associated with AOIs for people living with HIV/AIDS.
