Overview
A surgery and clinical case report is a detailed published account of an individual surgical patient, describing the presentation, diagnosis, operative management, and outcome of a particular condition, often accompanied by clinical and intraoperative images. Such reports are especially useful for documenting rare diseases, unusual anatomy, uncommon complications, and novel or technically challenging procedures, providing surgeons and other clinicians with practical insight that can inform decision-making and education. While individual cases sit lower in the evidence hierarchy than controlled studies, they remain an important means of sharing surgical experience and recognizing rare events. Clinical Case Reports and Images is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to publishing case reports and illustrative images across medical and surgical specialties. The journal's surgical case literature is extensive, including reports of primary breast sarcoma, non-Hodgkin lymphoma of the external auditory canal, a collision tumor found incidentally after appendectomy, transmural migration of a retained surgical sponge, percutaneous intervention for a left main coronary chronic total occlusion, a sub-xiphoid abscess after open heart surgery, an intrapulmonary metallic foreign body in a child, complications of stent infection, retroperitoneal fibrosis causing acute renal failure, and a duodenocolic fistula from gastrointestinal tuberculosis. This page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access surgical case reports and clinical images relevant to documenting individual surgical cases.
