Overview

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a condition in which the arteries supplying blood to the heart muscle become narrowed or blocked, most often through the build-up of atherosclerotic plaque, reducing blood flow and potentially causing angina, heart attack, or other serious cardiac events. Clinical Case Reports and Images are valuable tools for documenting its varied presentations and guiding diagnosis and management. CAD develops as fatty deposits, inflammation, and fibrous tissue accumulate within the coronary vessel walls, and it is linked to risk factors such as dyslipidaemia, diabetes, and hypertension. Presentations range from stable angina to acute coronary syndromes including unstable angina and myocardial infarction. Diagnosis and treatment draw on electrocardiography, echocardiography, imaging, and procedures such as percutaneous coronary intervention. Within this field the journal publishes peer-reviewed case reports and studies on percutaneous intervention for complex left main coronary lesions, on anatomical variation in the left coronary artery and its branches, and on comparisons of single- versus multivessel disease in acute coronary syndromes. Related work examines localisation of the angina-related artery by admission ECG, coronary artery calcification in type 2 diabetes, genetic polymorphisms and bioinformatic analysis of atherosclerosis-associated variants, outcomes of intervention in elderly patients, radial-artery occlusion prevention, and the management of associated cardiovascular and renal complications.
