Overview
Molecular pathology applies molecular biology techniques to the diagnosis and understanding of disease processes at the cellular and subcellular level, integrating genetic, biochemical, and metabolic information into clinical pathology practice. Research published in Clinical and Diagnostic Pathology on this topic addresses diverse applications spanning inherited metabolic disorders, endocrine disease management, age-related degenerative conditions, and advanced diagnostic imaging approaches. Published work has examined the molecular and metabolic mechanisms underlying familial combined hyperlipidemia and its relationship to metabolic syndrome, explored optimization strategies for thyroid disease diagnosis and treatment, and investigated antioxidant phytochemicals as potential therapeutic interventions for age-related macular degeneration based on their molecular mechanisms of action. Additional research has explored novel radiation sources for magnetic resonance biospectroscopy applications in metabolic imaging and cancer diagnosis. This body of work reflects the field's fundamental role in translating molecular-level disease understanding into improved diagnostic accuracy and therapeutic strategies. Molecular pathology continues to expand as genomic and proteomic technologies advance, enabling increasingly precise characterization of disease states and supporting the development of targeted interventions across multiple medical specialties.
