Pathogens

Pathogens are a class of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi and protozoa, which can cause disease in humans, animals and plants. Pathogens are of great significance due to the wide array of diseases that they can cause, ranging from mild illnesses to deadly pandemics, and they can be difficult to control due to their ability to rapidly multiply and evolve. Pathogens are used, however, in a variety of beneficial ways, such as in the production of vaccines and medicines, and in the agricultural industry to protect crops from certain diseases.
