Group C Streptococci

Group C Streptococci are gram-positive bacteria that are commonly found in the gastrointestinal and nasopharyngeal tracts of humans and animals. These organisms have been associated with a variety of diseases in humans, including strep throat, otitis media, sinusitis, endocarditis, and septicemia. Group C Streptococci also have been identified as a cause of some foodborne illnesses. Group C Streptococci are important in diagnosing and treating many clinical infections, as they can be identified through laboratory tests. Treatment options include antibiotics, but patient outcomes can be improved when appropriate diagnosis and treatment is done early.
