Dictyostelium Slug
Dictyostelium slug or Dictyostelium discoideum is a single-celled organism which exists as an aggregate of thousands of cells. It is a model organism used extensively in biomedical research, as it is relatively simple to grow and manipulate as well as providing insights into the behavior of other multicellular organisms. Research into Dictyostelium has provided insight into a variety of biological processes such as cell adhesion, differentiation, chemotaxis, and development. Dictyostelium slugs have been used to study the development of multicellular organisms, as well as cellular signals and communication. These studies have provided important insights into the development and behavior of more complex organisms, and have enabled researchers to gain a better understanding of diseases and treatments.
