Diagnosis
of Chlamydia Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted infection that is caused by the bacteria Chlamydia trachomatis. It is one of the most common bacterial STIs and is particularly common in young people. Early diagnosis and treatment are important, as left untreated, chlamydia can cause potentially serious health problems, including infertility and pelvic inflammatory disease. Diagnosis of chlamydia usually involves a urine test or swab of the vagina, penis, or rectum. Treatment is usually a single dose of antibiotics, and the sexual partner(s) should be tested and treated as well.
