Chromosome

A chromosome is a thread-like structure that is found in the nucleus of cells. It consists of DNA and proteins and is an important part of the cell’s genome, which contains the genetic information of the cell. Chromosomes are vital for the proper development and functioning of the cell and organism. Chromosomes are also responsible for the inheritance of traits and characteristics from one generation to the next. They act as a code of instructions that control the functioning and development of the body. Through the study of chromosomes, scientists are able to diagnose, treat and prevent genetic disorders.
