Centromere

The centromere is a structural and functional hub of chromosomes. It is located in the middle of the chromosome and plays a vital role in cell division. During mitosis, the centromere helps to align and segregate the chromosomes in an orderly manner to ensure that chromosomes are accurately distributed between the two daughter cells. This process is known as chromosome segregation, which is essential for the successful completion of cell division. In addition, it plays an important role in gene expression and regulation, as it serves as a "landing spot" for factors that control transcription and replication. The centromere is essential for the proper functioning of the cell and is therefore crucial for maintaining the integrity of the genome.
