Cell Division
Cell division is a process by which organisms produce new cells and is crucial for the continuity of all life. Without it, organisms could not grow, replace cells or reproduce. Cell division occurs in two forms: mitosis and meiosis. Mitosis is the process of producing two identical daughter cells from a single parent cell. Meiosis is a process of producing four daughter cells from a single parent cell, each with half the number of chromosomes. Cell division has significant effects on the structure and function of organisms, as it controls the growth, development, and reproduction of all living things. Cell division also plays a key role in the mutation of genes, necessary for the diversity that is essential for the growth of species.
