Overview

Mental health is a state of wellbeing in which individuals are able to cope with the normal stresses of life, work productively and make a contribution to their community. It is essential to overall health and is associated with an increased sense of wellbeing, enhanced self-esteem and improved quality of life. Good mental health can be achieved by managing stress, establishing healthy social relationships, maintaining physical health habits, developing healthy coping skills, and seeking help when needed. Mental health is significant as it can improve our ability to function and relate to others, to think and make decisions, and to lead a meaningful life. Mental health services can help improve quality of life for those suffering from mental health issues and can provide support to their families and friends.
