Overview

(HPV) Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a group of viruses that can cause warts on the skin and infections in the genital areas. It is the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI), and can lead to serious illness if not treated appropriately. HPV is especially dangerous for women, as it can lead to cervical cancer. Vaccination is the best way to protect against HPV, and it is recommended for both boys and girls starting at age 11 or 12. Other ways to reduce the risk of HPV include practicing safe sex and getting tested regularly.
