Infant Growth
Infant growth is the process by which a baby develops physically and cognitively in the first year of life. It is essential for the child’s overall development, as it lays the foundation for their future health, learning and development. Because of its significance, infant growth is closely monitored to make sure that the child is growing at the appropriate rate. The World Health Organization (WHO) has developed growth standards that are used to track the physical growth of infants, including height, weight and head circumference from birth to 24 months. Additionally, healthcare providers commonly observe the development of feeding, communication and motor skills. This gives them a better understanding of the child’s overall development and alert them to any potential developmental delays that may need further evaluation.
