Breastfeeding, Duration
, and its benefits to the mother Breastfeeding is the process of providing a baby with nutrition through the mother's breast milk. It has long been established that breastfeeding for a recommended duration is beneficial for both the baby and the mother. Breastfeeding has significant benefits for the mother; it helps to reduce the risk of breast and ovarian cancer, help the mother lose pregnancy weight more quickly, and even help to increase maternal bond between the mother and the baby. Breastfeeding also provides babies with the essential nutrition they need. It provides a higher concentration of key nutrients such as proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals to help with growth and development. It also helps support the baby’s immune system, protecting them from infections and illnesses. This is why breastfeeding is recommended for at least the first six months of a baby’s life and preferably to one year. Therefore, it is important for mothers to understand the benefits of breastfeeding and the ideal duration for it.
