Glioblastoma Multiforme

Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most aggressive type of primary brain tumor. It is a malignant cancer characterized by its quick growth rate, a tendency to invade surrounding normal brain tissue, and resistance to radiation and chemotherapy. GBM is a major public health concern; an estimated 12,000 new cases of GBM are diagnosed in the United States each year. Treatment for GBM includes surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. However, due to the advanced growth of GBM, recurrence rates are high. Research is ongoing to develop new treatments that improve outcomes for GBM patients.
