Overview
. Brain tumor surgery is a form of medical treatment for patients with brain tumors. The primary aim of this procedure is to reduce the size of the tumor and to remove as much of the tumor as possible. It may also be used to relieve symptoms caused by the tumor and to improve the patient's quality of life. During the surgery, the surgeon will make an incision in the scalp and then open the skull to expose the tumor, which may then be resected, debulked, and/or biopsied. Brain tumor surgery can provide a long-term survival benefit for many patients and can help to improve their neurological and physical functioning. It is important that patients choose a qualified and experienced surgeon to perform this procedure to reduce the risk of complications.
