Diastolic Blood Pressure
Diastolic blood pressure is the lower number in a blood pressure reading (systolic being the higher). It is the pressure of the blood in the arteries when the heart relaxes between beats and is measured in millimetres of mercury (mmHg). High diastolic blood pressure (hypertension) can lead to serious health problems such as stroke and heart attack. It is an important measure to monitor in order to maintain good health and it can be managed through lifestyle changes such as consuming a healthy diet and moderate exercise.
