Pharmacogenomics is the study of how an individual’s genes affect their response to drugs. This field of medicine looks at how inherited genetic variations may affect how people respond to different medications and therapies, leading to personalized treatment plans tailor-made for an individual’s genetics. This precision medicine approach has the potential to improve the effectiveness and safety of drug therapies, leading to better health outcomes. As the technology continues to develop, pharmacogenomic testing will become increasingly used to assess an individual’s genetic risk factors before they start any medication.
