Biodegradation
Biodegradation is a process in which organic compounds are broken down into simpler compounds by natural microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi and algae. This process is an integral part of environmental cycles, and is essential to the regeneration of nutrients and the natural recycling of materials. It is also important in the treatment of waste materials and in the recovery of valuable resources. Biodegradation can be used to rid the environment of hazardous substances, reduce the impact of pollutants, and create useful products. It is a sustainable and cost-effective technology which not only helps to protect the environment, but also has the potential to generate economic benefits.
