Polymers
Polymers are large molecules composed of repeating structural units connected by chemical bonds. They form an important class of materials with a wide range of applications due to their unique physical and chemical properties. Polymers can be engineered to exhibit desired properties, such as increased strength and rigidity, reduced weight, improved thermal and electrical properties, increased flexibility, and improved resistance to chemicals and weathering. Examples of polymers include polyethylene, polystyrene, polyvinylchloride (PVC), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), polyester, and polycarbonate. Other polymeric materials, such as rubber and synthetic fabrics, are also common in everyday life. Polymers are used in a variety of products such as packaging materials, insulation, adhesives, paints, coatings, plastics, composites, medical implants, and fiber-reinforced materials.
