Biomimetic Materials
Biomimetic materials are synthetic materials that have been designed to imitate the physical and chemical properties of natural materials. These materials are key in various industries and have many applications that range from medical implants and artificial organs to aircraft engineering and energy harvesting. Their unique properties are formed through their ability to mimic the mechanical or structural properties of natural materials found in organisms such as plants, animals and microorganisms. The use of biomimetic materials improves product performance while reducing the environmental impact, creating improved materials that are lightweight and durable. They are also cheaper and more energy efficient than traditional materials.
