Promoting Self Care
Self-care is a form of preventive healthcare involving the practice of activities and behaviors that enhance one's overall health and well-being. It is a way of managing stress and taking care of physical, mental and emotional needs, as well as engaging in enjoyable activities. Self-care can increase self-esteem, reduce stress and enhance physical and mental health. It can also increase productivity and improve relationships, while helping to cope with challenges such as chronic illness, grief, or depression. Self-care activities can include relaxation techniques, eating right, exercising regularly, getting enough sleep and maintaining positive relationships. Taking the time to engage in self-care not only has mental and physical health benefits, but can also be a powerful component of overall wellness.
