Orthopedics is a branch of medicine that is focused on the diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and rehabilitation of disorders and injuries of the musculoskeletal system. This includes bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves, and other related structures. Orthopedists use a variety of treatments to help their patients return to an active, healthy life, such as medications, physical therapy, surgery, and specialized orthopedic devices. Orthopedic surgery is utilized when conservative treatments are not sufficient to relieve the patient's symptoms. Orthopedics is an important part of total health care, providing individuals of all ages with the ability to stay active and healthy.
