Human Genome Project
The Human Genome Project (HGP) was an international research project launched in 1990 with the goal of determining the complete sequence of the chemical base pairs that make up the human DNA. This task was completed in 2003 and represented a major breakthrough in the field of genomics. The data generated by the HGP has been critical in understanding the genetic causes of complex diseases, informing personalized healthcare, and understanding human evolution. It has also enabled further research into gene-editing techniques and gene therapies, which may one day revolutionize medicine. The HGP has had a monumental impact on the scientific community, opening up a world of possibilities for further research and advancements in the fields of genetics and biotechnology.
