HapMap Project

The HapMap Project (or International HapMap Project) is an international public research project that aimed to create a public catalog of human genetic variation across the world. This catalog was designed to be used as a tool for disease studies, therapeutic drug optimization, and other research on human genetics. By creating a catalog of genetic variation across global populations, researchers can better identify genetic patterns associated with particular diseases or conditions, including cancer, diabetes, and hypertension. The catalog also helps researchers understand how different populations are affected by the same disease differently due to genetic variation. It is also a key tool for drug development, helping researchers to optimize therapeutic drugs for different populations. The HapMap Project was initiated in 2002 and completed in October 2007.
