Epigenomics
Epigenomics is a field of molecular biology that studies the processes that control gene expression. It investigates the way in which cells 'read' genetic information and how this information is used to produce proteins and other molecules. Epigenetic modifications, such as DNA methylation and histone modification, control gene expression without altering the underlying genetic code. Understanding epigenomic processes can lead to new treatments for diseases such as cancer, as therapies can be developed that target these epigenetic mechanisms. Epigenomics is an important area of research, as it can provide insight into how genes interact with their environment, which can help us in understanding the development of diseases, drug responses, and the aging process.
