Overview
Diabetic nephropathy is a kidney disorder that affects people with diabetes. It occurs when high blood sugar levels damage the small blood vessels of the kidneys, resulting in kidney damage and eventual kidney failure. Diabetic nephropathy significantly increases the risk of heart attack, stroke, and other serious health problems. Early detection and aggressive treatment can slow the progression of the disease and help people with diabetes maintain a healthier lifestyle. Treatment includes lifestyle modifications, medications, regular monitoring of kidney function, and other preventive measures.
